Gas prices Gas prices have kept going up in the Metro Vancouver area, much to the frustration of drivers.
Thursday morning, drivers woke up to find that gas had gone up by five cents overnight, with prices at most gas stations ranging from $2.04 to $2.12 per litre.
It is expected that prices will increase again by Friday morning, probably by another two cents.
According to gas expert Dan McTeague of Canadians for Affordable Energy, despite the Parkland Refinery in Burnaby being back in operation, the cost per barrel is still rising globally, leading to the price hikes.
Dan McTeague, a gas expert with Canadians for Affordable Energy, said that the cost per litre for a barrel of oil has gone up about 12 cents. This, along with tight supply in the Pacific Northwest and the switch to summer gasoline blends, is the main reason for the significant price increases.
He also mentioned, "The increase in carbon taxes of 3.5 cents per litre on Monday only adds to the issue."
McTeague forecasts that prices will keep rising into the summer and could reach as high as $2.30 per litre by late spring.
