A court in Abuja on Wednesday rejected a request to halt the attempt to remove Edo State Deputy Governor, Phillip Shaibu, by the state House of Assembly. The House of Assembly began impeachment proceedings against Shaibu on March 5, 2024, for allegedly leaking government secrets. Shaibu filed a motion seeking to stop the state House of Assembly from taking any action to remove him, but the court refused to grant the request.

The Edo State House of Assembly passed a decision on Tuesday, telling the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, to create a seven-person group to look into the accusations of serious wrongdoing against the deputy governor, Philip Shaibu. During the meeting, 19 out of 24 members voted in support of the decision.
