Jonathan Majors maintains his innocence but was convicted for misdemeanor reckless assault and harassment, leading to a defamation lawsuit from his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari.
The new lawsuit, filed in New York federal court on Tuesday, claims battery, assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress, malicious prosecution, and defamation, which is based on Majors’ continued denial before and after his conviction.
Majors’ attorney, Priya Chaudhry, stated, “This is no surprise. Mr. Majors is preparing counterclaims against Ms. Jabbari.”
Majors could face up to one year in jail due to his previous conviction.
The lawsuit alleges that Majors publicly smeared Grace’s reputation following his arrest by claiming innocence, victimization, and denying any assault, instead asserting that Grace was experiencing an emotional crisis.
Before the trial, Majors was a sought-after actor, known for his roles in independent films like “The Last Black Man in San Francisco” and studio movies like “Devotion” and “Creed III.” He was also set to play Kang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, following his conviction, Marvel Studios and his representation severed ties with him, and the movie “Magazine Dreams” was quietly returned to its filmmakers after being acquired by Searchlight Pictures. Marvel Studios ended their association with the actor, as did his representation.
