“Bupkis” The Pete Davidson comedy series won't have a second season, even though Peacock renewed it. This wasn't a reversal by the streamer; Davidson chose to cancel the show.
Davidson explained that 'Bupkis' is very personal to him and reflects his struggles and family. He mentioned that this chapter of his life is now closed.
After almost ten years of his personal life being public, Davidson wanted the chance to tell his story his own way. He's especially proud of 'Bupkis' and is grateful to everyone involved in creating the honest, funny, and heartfelt series. He feels that this part of his life is over.
The “SNL” alum is looking forward to the next chapter and for fans to see his future work.
“Bupkis,” created by Davidson, Judah Miller, and Dave Sirus, presents a highly fictionalized version of Davidson’s life, similar to “Curb Your Enthusiasm” for Larry David. The series shows Pete returning to Staten Island to live with his mother, played by Edie Falco, and dealing with family tragedy. The ensemble cast includes Bobby Cannavale, Brad Garrett, Shane Gillis, Charlie Day, Kenan Thompson, Steve Buscemi, Jon Stewart, and John Mulaney.
While the series was well received and currently holds a 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, “Bupkis” didn't quite catch on for Davidson or Peacock. He even joked about its lack of impact when hosting “Saturday Night Live” in October. The sketch “I’m Just Pete” includes the line “No one cares about the work I do / I made a show with Joe Pesci too / And no one streamed it but my mom.” Looking ahead, Davidson will star in James DeMonaco’s horror-thriller about a retirement home with dark secrets, “The Home,” which is expected to come out later this year.
