A Toronto police officer has been arrested and charged with several firearm-related offences, including two counts of careless storage.
Toronto police reported on Thursday that Peel Regional Police launched an investigation on Dec. 9, 2023.
The investigation was triggered by a gun being fired in Brampton on that day, according to police.
During the investigation, two firearms were discovered. Police stated that one of the firearms was owned by a resident of Hamilton.
The firearm had not been reported as missing or stolen, and officers searched a residence in Hamilton as part of the inquiry.
Toronto police mentioned, “They seized an overcapacity magazine and found 20 registered firearms that were carelessly stored.”
A 51-year-old Toronto constable was taken into custody and charged with failure to report, unauthorized possession of a prohibited device, and two counts of careless storage of a firearm.
He is currently on suspension with pay while the investigation continues.
