The New York Jets are bringing in a lot of potential players for visits before the 2024 NFL Draft, and one of them is Chop Robinson, a pass rusher from Penn State.
The Jets are planning to meet with Robinson as part of their top-30 visits before this year's draft, which is less than a month away. Ian Rapoport, an insider at NFL Network, reported this. posted to X Rapoport mentioned that Robinson met with the New York Giants on April 4th and will meet with the Jets on Friday, April 5th.
Aaron Wilson, an insider at NFL, added that Robinson is scheduled to visit other top-30 teams including the Saints, Eagles, Ravens, and Seahawks. Robinson is attracting interest from multiple teams. The Jets may have a good opportunity to pick him with the 10th overall selection in the draft.
Scouting Report on Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson may not be the most experienced EDGE player in this draft class, but he has exceptional abilities that could make him a star.
Robinson was a highly rated recruit coming out of high school in 2021. He played his first season for Maryland before moving to Penn State. During his college career, he had decent performance, recording 20 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks over three seasons.
However, it's his athleticism rather than his performance that makes Robinson a potential first-round pick. At nearly 6’3″ and 254 pounds, he achieved a Relative Athletic Score (RAS) of 9.71 out of 10, thanks to impressive results in the 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle, and broad jump. On video, Robinson displays exceptional initial explosiveness. He can swiftly move around the edge to reach the quarterback, demonstrating good flexibility in the process. He also has good strength to confront blockers in both running and passing situations. Nonetheless, he still needs to improve the technical aspects of his game, particularly as a pass rusher, in order to convert pressures into sacks at the NFL level. Other Prospects Visiting the Jets
Robinson is not the only notable player the Jets have invited for a top-30 visit. Wide receiver Rome Odunze is among the most recent visitors. A standout for the Washington Huskies, he has great size, contested-catch ability, and very good athleticism. He has even been compared to Davante Adams. This comparison is likely to excite Aaron Rodgers, who played with Adams during their time with the Green Bay Packers.
Another quarterback, Jordan Travis, has also visited the Jets. However, he is likely to be picked much later than Odunze or Robinson, and would serve as a backup QB in development. The former Seminoles star is recovering from a severe leg injury sustained this offseason.
Brenden Rice is one of the more intriguing names on the list of reported top-30 visits for the Jets. The son of NFL legend Jerry Rice, he was one of the top weapons for Caleb Williams during their time together at USC. While not a top-tier prospect, Rice has enough potential to be chosen on Day 2 or Day 3.
While visits do not reveal the entire story before the 2024 NFL Draft, they do provide Jets fans with an idea of the positions and players the team is focusing on.
