Durham Region Health Department has announced that a grown person contracted measles while traveling overseas.
DRHP mentioned that the public might have been exposed to the virus on a Royal Jordanian Airlines RJ271 flight that left Jordan on March 28 at 10:43 a.m. (local time).
There is also a potential exposure when the flight arrived at Toronto Pearson International Airport, in Terminal 3, on March 28 between 5:24 and 8:45 p.m., according to DRHP.
The individual is presently isolated at home.
DRHP stated that it does not have knowledge of any specific places of exposure within Durham Region.
The local health department mentioned that it has already reached out to direct contacts of the infected individual and is exploring the case with other areas “regarding potential exposures outside of Durham Region.”
“Measles is a highly contagious illness that easily spreads to those who are not immunized or have not previously had measles,” DRHP stated.
DRHP stated that “all Ontarians are entitled to two publicly funded doses of the measles vaccine.”
There have been more occurrences of measles in 2024 than in all of 2023, as per Public Health Ontario.
