Nigerian table tennis star Quadri Aruna is unhappy with World Table Tennis’ punishments for not taking part in two recent tournaments.
On Thursday, Aruna posted on his social media accounts, accusing WTT of unfairly restricting players and asking other players to back him up.
Aruna, who had previously accused WTT of racism, said on his Facebook page, “Players have no right to withdraw from these events due to player club engagements due to date changes by WTT.
Aruna called on other players to speak out against WTT, stating, “I know all of you players are in my support, and I am challenging you all now to come out publicly and talk against these dictators before it’s too late for our sport.
“No matter what, nobody deserves to die in silence.”
Aruna had previously accused WTT of racism when he received penalties for not participating in the World Championships and the WTT Championship in Korea earlier this year.
As a result of the penalties, Aruna lost his top position in the African rankings to Egyptian rival Omar Assar, who moved up five places to the 17th spot in the world, two spots above Quadri in the 2024 Week 12 Ranking released by ITTF in March.
