An Edwardsville man thought he was going to be killed when Antwon Leon Bickerstaff shot him outside his apartment last year.
Edrisa Sey, 42, expressed gratitude to his neighbors for saving his life after getting shot in the left arm at the Hilltop Apartment Complex on March 15, 2023.
During Bickerstaff’s sentencing hearing with Luzerne County President Judge Michael T. Vough, Sey stated, “This defendant tried to take my life.”
Sey believed he was set up when his former girlfriend visited his apartment and it led to a confrontation with Bickerstaff, 39, who also had a relationship with the woman.
While they were talking, Bickerstaff took out a gun and shot Sey before driving away in a Chevrolet Impala, according to court records.
According to court records, Edwardsville police stated that surveillance cameras captured Bickerstaff firing three shots at Sey.
Bickerstaff was arrested by Wilkes-Barre police after they found the Chevrolet outside Bickerstaff’s residence at 46 Brookside Ave., the day after the shooting.
Vough mentioned that he was obligated to sentence Bickerstaff to five to ten years in state prison for charges of illegal possession of a firearm and aggravated assault. Bickerstaff pleaded guilty to the charges on March 18 as part of the plea agreement that recommended the sentence.
Sey had surgery at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township and mentioned that it took almost a year for him to return to work.
