Jimoh Ibrahim, a candidate for governorship with the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, mentioned that the recent endorsements received by the current governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, do not guarantee his victory in the upcoming election.
Following the submission of his expression of interest and nomination forms at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, the senator representing Ondo South shared this statement.
He explained that in Nigerian politics, it is widely understood that endorsements do not guarantee election success.
He also pointed out that in politics, winning an election is about gathering enough support, not about receiving endorsements. He used the example of the successful election of Asiwaju without any endorsements, emphasizing that having the belief that it is your turn is important. He also mentioned paying a significant sum to the party to secure memberships for his supporters.
He also dismissed rumors about his competitor, Olusola Oke, stepping down for him to secure his senatorial ticket for the Ondo governorship race. He clarified that Oke did not support his campaign and did not contribute any funds. He also emphasized that no agreement was made between them.
He shared his confident belief that he would win, despite being told by elders that he was late in declaring his intention to run. He also expressed his vision of transforming Ondo State, drawing on his professional education and holding three Ph.Ds.

“I actually declared my intention to run 30 days before the primary election. But I knew I would win. I remember some elders telling me at some local governments that I was late and should probably prepare for another time. However, I developed a system that overwhelmed them. I am talking from the perspective of my professional education and as a man with three Ph.Ds. The state shouldn’t be about debt collection. Give me Ondo State, and I will turn it to Dubai,” he stated.
