The Super Eagles of Nigeria are in 30th place in the 2024 Men’s World ranking, which is down two places from their previous 28th position.
The ranking, released by the Federation of International Football Association on Thursday, shows that the Eagles surpassed the 2023 CAF African Cup of Nations winner, Cote d’Ivoire, and seven-time AFCON winner, Egypt.
After the AFCON tournament, the Eagles played in two friendly matches. They won 2-1 against neighbouring rivals, Ghana, and lost 2-0 against Mali.
As noted by PUNCH Online, the Eagles are the third-highest ranked team in African football, behind only the Atlas Lions of Morocco and the Teranga Lions of Senegal.
Argentina, the 2022 World Cup winner, is in first place, followed by France, the tournament’s first runner-up.
Belgium holds the third position, and the fourth place is held by the Three Lions of England.
