Kwara State Government has rejected any connection to the current corruption trial of former Governor Abdulfatahi Ahmed,
This was stated by the state Commissioner for Communications, Bola Olukoju, through its X handle.
Ahmed was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on February 24.
He is accused of 12 offenses related to alleged mishandling of public funds amounting to N10 billion.
The state government’s statement said, ” Kwara State Government has denied claims that it is responsible for the ongoing corruption trial of former Governor Abdulfatahi Ahmed, stating that the responsibilities of governance do not allow any distractions or targeting of anyone, including former public officials.
“In a statement on Thursday, Kwara State Commissioner for Communications Bola Olukoju said the trial of the former governor is the sole responsibility of the anti-corruption agencies who may have found evidence against him after their own investigations of various transactions involving his administration.
“We believe the accusation of the opposition party is cowardly, unfounded, and mistaken. The appropriate place to prove the innocence of anyone accused of misconduct is the court of law, not in the media or through indirect confrontations. They should leave us out of the issue.”
