WILKES-BARRE — A person driving a car pulled over by Wilkes-Barre Township police for having an expired New Jersey license plate was sent to state prison after a firearm was discovered in the car.
Luzerne County Judge David W. Lupas handed down a five-to-10-year state prison term to Adrian G. Scott, 39, for charges of unlawful firearm possession, driving while under the influence of a controlled substance, and having a small amount of marijuana. Scott admitted guilt to the charges on Feb. 12.
According to court documents, Scott was pulled over by police on Highland Park Boulevard for driving a Jeep Cherokee with an expired New Jersey license plate on Oct. 20, 2022.
During the traffic stop, police noticed a strong smell of marijuana coming from the Jeep.
According to court records, Scott admitted to smoking weed.
While Scott was being arrested for drug driving, police found a Glock 9mm inside the Jeep as well as a magazine containing 14 9mm rounds in Scott’s pocket, as per court records.
Police stated that Scott, who briefly lived in Askam, Hanover Township, is not allowed to own, possess, or carry a firearm due to previous felony convictions for arson, burglary, and assault in New York.
