The New Brunswick RCMP reports that a 36-year-old man has confessed to multiple charges related to old sexual assaults that occurred in two communities over more than a decade.
In a statement, police mention that the Codiac Regional RCMP received a report of a sexual assault from about 10 years ago in the Moncton region.
“After investigating further, police discovered that the person had used a harmful substance to make the victim unconscious before the assault,” the statement said.
Following a search warrant at two locations in the Greater Moncton region, police apprehended and charged 36-year-old Jonathan Luc Beaulieu “with a number of offences in relation to the investigation.”
Additional victims were then found during the investigation.
“Evidence indicates that the incidents mainly occurred in the Greater Moncton and Greater Edmundston regions from 2010 to 2023,” the statement said.
“However, the man did work in Alberta at times and may have committed crimes there as well.”
Beaulieu appeared in court on March 14 to face more charges, and confessed on March 21 to the following charges:
- Three counts of sexual assault with a weapon;
- Two counts of sexual assault;
- Two counts of voyeurism;
- Two counts of distributing intimate images;
- Overcoming resistance;
- Administering a harmful substance;
- Assault.
Beaulieu was kept in custody and is set to be sentenced May 28.
Sgt. Sylvette Hebert of the Codiac Regional RCMP stated in a release that the investigation is still ongoing.
“There could be other potential victims who may have memory gaps, but it is crucial for them to have the bravery to contact the police so that we can talk to them, or anyone else with pertinent information about this investigation,” Hebert said.
