The Nasarawa State Police Command reported that its officers killed a suspected kidnapper on the Nasarawa-Keffi highway.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, revealed this in a statement on Thursday.
The statement stated, “On 03/4/2024 at about 2100hrs, a distress call was received that some criminals have blocked Nasarawa – Keffi highway around Kemu village in order to kidnap unsuspecting road users.
“Reacting to the unpleasant development, police officers, in collaboration with the military, quickly went to the scene. On seeing the officers, the criminals opened fire, and a gun battle ensued.
“One of the criminals was fatally wounded, and one Ak 47 rifle loaded with 11 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition was recovered; this forced the criminals to abandon their mission and run for safety due to the superior firepower of the joint security forces.
“Investigations revealed that the kidnappers had stopped two Sport utility Vehicles to kidnap the occupants, but the swift intervention of the joint security forces prevented this.
“The injured kidnapper was taken to General Hospital, Nasarawa, where he died while receiving treatment.
