Ontario's Education Minister Stephen Lecce has announced that the province will invest 1.3 billion dollars in building and expanding schools.
He explains that the funding will be used to create 27,093 new student areas and 1,759 child-care spaces.
This forms part of a planned 16 billion dollar budget over the next decade for the construction of schools and child-care spaces, as outlined in the province's recent budget.
Lecce also reveals a strategy to halve construction timelines, urging boards to standardize the design of new school buildings in order to speed up the construction process.
Cathy Abraham, the president of the Ontario Public School Boards' Association, believes this will ensure that students throughout the province have access to modern, cutting-edge learning environments.
The government states that since 2018, it has greenlit or backed over 300 school-related initiatives, with more than 100 currently in active construction.
