Russian airstrikes in Ukraine’s second largest city Kharkiv resulted in the deaths of four individuals and the injury of 11 others, officials reported on Thursday.
Igor Terekhov, the mayor of Kharkiv, stated that three rescue workers lost their lives during a second strike on a residential building in a densely populated area of the city.
An additional individual was killed in a drone attack on another building, according to Terekhov. The fourth victim, described as a 68-year-old woman, was confirmed by the police, who also reported 11 injuries resulting from the nighttime attacks.
Governor Oleg Synegubov of Kharkiv reported that Russian forces initiated the use of at least 15 drones, with some being successfully intercepted.
Russian strikes target Ukraine’s cities nearly every night, with Kharkiv, situated near the northeastern border, being among the most frequently targeted.
Ukrainian officials have appealed to the country’s allies for increased supply of anti-aircraft defense systems, particularly the modern US-made Patriot systems.
US military assistance to Ukraine has been diminishing, with a $60-billion funding package currently held up in Congress.
