If the Miami Heat If the Heat fail to win a championship, they may need to make some changes. Despite reaching long playoff runs, they have not been able to overcome this challenge. One potential improvement could involve trading Tyler Herro.
Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report pointed out the reasons why it might be best for the Heat to exchange Herro.
“Miami should give up on the idea of Herro becoming a star and instead utilize him to address other areas of need. Perhaps he can help fill the size gap the Heat have around Bam Adebayo. Maybe Herro can assist in acquiring a strong defender with a reliable outside shot, or a player who fits better with Terry Rozier than Herro does,” wrote Buckley in a story dated April 4.
Buckley did not provide further details on who the Heat should get in return for Herro. Trading him may be challenging, given that he’s in the first year of a four-year, $120 million deal.
Herro has participated in 36 games during the 2023-24 season and has maintained an average of 20.8 points per game. He has achieved a 20-point average for three consecutive seasons starting from the 2021-22 season.
Tyler Herro Out vs. Sixers: Report
Despite Herro’s talent, he continues to be unavailable for the Heat. Ira Winderman of the Sun-Sentinel reported that the Heat will be without Herro for their game against the Philadelphia 76ers.
“Tyler Herro again is listed as out for the Heat for Thursday night as he deals with medial tendinitis in his right foot.
“Thursday will be the 20th consecutive game missed by Herro, who last played in the Feb. 23 road victory over the New Orleans Pelicans,” Winderman wrote in a story dated April 3.
Herro is no stranger to struggling with injuries. He missed almost the entire Cinderella playoff run for the Heat in 2023 and struggled to remain on the court during their playoff run in 2022.
Herro’s absence could have a significant impact on the Heat's position in the Eastern Conference standings. They are currently at 42-33, placing them as the No. 6 seed in the conference. The Sixers are one and a half games behind them as the No. 8 seed. Winning this game could provide the Heat with some breathing room in the play-in race.
A loss could make all the difference in possibly missing the playoffs completely.
Pat Riley Denies Trying to Trade Tyler Herro
Despite Herro being prominently discussed in trade talks during the 2023 NBA Offseason for Damian Lillard, Pat Riley stated that he did not actively attempt to trade Herro.
“I can say that we never offered Tyler in any trade, we never offered him to anyone,” Riley said, according to according to Winderman. “It’s just part of the business.”
Things might change in the 2024 NBA Offseason. Herro has proven his capabilities as a scorer right from the start. However, he has also demonstrated that he has been unable to stay on the court over the past few seasons. The Heat could trade him for someone who not only contributes more to the team but also can endure both the regular season and the postseason.
