The Amotekun Corps in Osun State said it captured a man named Adegoroye Akinola for allegedly swindling nine individuals of N1.5 million.
According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the state Amotekun Corps, Idowu Yusuff, the suspect pretended to help the victims with Corporate Affairs Commission’s registration and International Passport procurement.
Yusuff also mentioned that Akinola committed the fraud in the Oluyole area of Ibadan, Oyo State capital, and the corps learned about it when a complaint was filed at its office.
Yusuff stated, “Osun Amotekun arrested a 51-year-old man called Adegoroye Akinola, from Igbara Odo, Ekiti State, for supposedly defrauding nine victims of N1.597.000 in the Oluyole area of Ibadan, Oyo State, by posing as a C.A.C registration and International Passport processor for them.
“After a complaint was lodged at Amotekun Ayedaade Command in Gbongan, the suspect was apprehended. Our operatives tracked him down after he fled from Ibadan to Igbara Odo in Ekiti State following the crime.”
The statement observed that the suspect “constantly changed his mobile number, making it difficult to locate him. However, after technical analysis, our Amotekun operatives discovered his presence in Igbara Odo, Ekiti State.”
“He was arrested based on information from his girlfriend who was asked to call him to Gbongan for a business opportunity. He was then detained,” Yusuff disclosed.
Discussing the matter, the Commander, Osun Amotekun Corps, Brig-Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi (retd.), mentioned that the suspect had been transferred to the Oyo State Command of the corps for further inquiry and legal action.
Adewinbi revealed that during the investigation, the command found that the suspect used various aliases such as Ayodeji Harry-young and Samuel Ayodeji, along with multiple phone numbers and ATM cards with different names for his fraudulent activities.
On Monday, April 13, Osun Amotekun had arrested one Micheal Eze, 25, from Ebonyi State, who was working as a private security guard at GRA Osogbo for stealing nine air conditioners.
The suspect was arrested after selling the air conditioners, valued at N400,000 each, to scrap buyers at the rate of N5,000 per unit.
