Bernard Hill, a British actor famous for his roles in “Titanic” and “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, died at 79 on Sunday, according to his agent.
He portrayed Captain Edward Smith in the award-winning 1997 film “Titanic”, and gained global acclaim for his role as Theoden, King of Rohan, in two of the three “The Lord of the Rings” movies directed by Peter Jackson.
His agent, Lou Coulson, confirmed his passing in the early hours of Sunday to British media outlets.

In the early stages of his career, Hill appeared in the praised 1982 BBC drama “Boys from the Blackstuff,” which received numerous awards and is still considered one of the best examples of its genre from that time.
He was set to make an appearance in the second series of a modern-day BBC drama, “The Responder,” featuring Martin Freeman, which is scheduled to start airing in the UK later on Sunday.
