The Mayor of Brampton, Patrick Brown, has expressed his appreciation for Lagos State during his visit in 2007.
Brown made this statement at a townhall meeting organized by the Coalition of Nigerian Canadian Interest Groups in Canada to honor the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
A video posted by a Twitter user, Wale Adedayo, with the handle @Mario9jaa, shows Obi standing next to Brown as he speaks to the enthusiastic audience.
Brown mentioned, “I visited Nigeria in 2007. I went to Lagos and I was captivated by the country. Two years ago, I returned and once again, I traveled around the country. Whenever you visit Nigeria, you find yourself thinking, ‘When can I go back?”
He expressed that he was “impressed” by the country’s film industry, Nollywood.
“There’s a great deal of affection for Nigeria in my city,” he said.
Furthermore, a member of the Provincial Parliament in Brampton North, Graham McGregor, tweeting as @BramptonGraham, stated on Sunday, “In Brampton, we’ve got one of the fastest growing Nigerian-Canadian communities. I’ve spoken with a few people here who are from Brampton and we’ve got a lot of exciting things going on.”
He emphasized the importance of creating an “open, inclusive, welcoming economy for everyone. And with the connections we’re establishing here with the Nigerian-Canadian community, we want to ensure that Nigerians are part of it.”
