The Nigerian Bar Association has approved 37 people competing for different roles in its upcoming election.
The PUNCH reported that a document showed 12 people were banned from the poll, while 37 others were allowed to participate.
However, the disqualified candidates can appeal to the National Officers Election Appeal Committee.
The NBA election is set for July 20, 202, and all registered members from branches across the country are expected to join in.
The association has adopted an electronic voting system for the election, allowing members to participate from different locations.
A document obtained by The PUNCH, dated May 3, 2024, and signed by Oluseun Abimbola (SAN), the chairman of the NBA's Electoral Committee, and Huwaila Ibrahim, the Secretary, listed the names cleared for the election of National Officers and NBA representatives at the General Council of Bar.
The candidates for the President role include Afam Osigwe (SAN), Tobenna Erojikwe, and Chukwuka Nwabueze (SAN).
Gerald Aboniyi, Reginald Ugwadu, Bartholomew Aguebodo, Sosapiriye Williams, and Iwezor Promise-Webo Iwezor were listed for the First Vice-President position.
Bolatumi Animashaun and Oiwoh Idemudia were listed for the Second Vice President role.
In the category of the Third Vice President, Zainab Garba, Michael Olorunmola, and Abdulwasiu Alfa were listed, while Mobolaji Ojibara was the only candidate cleared for the General Secretary position.
Henry Ehi and Oluwaseun Aka were listed for the assistant General Secretary position.
Blessing Udofa-Poromon was cleared for the treasurer position, and Aigbokhai Osagie, Ernest Uwanaka, and Nyada Auta were cleared for the Welfare Secretary position.
Ferdinand Naza, Bridget Edokwe, and Charles Ajiboye were listed for the Publicity Secretary position, and Lawrence Ayewa and Ebiere Ekpese were listed for the assistant Publicity Secretary position.
The representatives to the General Council of Bar include Eric Ibe, Tijani Magaji, Obi Arizona, Sulayman Dawud, Olukunle Edun, Kingsley Asagba, Isreal Lagbamue, Augustine Ike, Daniel Kip, Michael Onuorah, and Precious Nwadimuya.
The people disqualified are Joyce Oduah, Anyia Ubua, Osamuede Asenoguan, Tsav Iyorember, Caroline Anze-Bishop, Henry Chiduabo, Mbamala Aloysius, Felix Ashimole, Adejorin Abiona, Wahab Muhammed, Dhikrullah Balogun, and Ibekwe Nkiru.
NBA National Publicity Secretary, Akorede Lawal, explained that the reasons for disqualification have been shared with the affected members.
