The Lagos government intends to clear more than 100 shacks under the Adeniji Adele bridge starting on Monday, May 6, 2024.
The State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, revealed this information in an interview with reporters on Sunday.
The Lagos government will take action to clear over 100 shacks at Adeniji Adele under bridge from tomorrow, Monday, May 6, 2024.
“The removal is happening after the end of a 48-hour notice given to all occupants of the shacks to move with their belongings,” Wahab explained.
He mentioned that the Kick Against Indiscipline operatives and officials from the Ministry's Monitoring Enforcement and Compliance department will receive security support for the operation.
According to him, this activity is part of the government's dedication to reclaim all ungoverned areas in Lagos.
“Apart from the unsanitary conditions of residents in the shacks, it also serves as a hiding place for criminals and points for peddling hard drugs and substances which is injurious to the wellbeing of law-abiding residents.
“Therefore, I advise all the occupants of the shacks in their interest, to voluntarily move out with their belongings before the commencement of the enforcement operations on Monday,” he added.
A similar operation was conducted last week in Ikoyi where an apartment with an annual rent of N250,000 was found under the Dolphin Estate Bridge.
He added that the enforcement team of Lagos State’s Ministry of Environment and Water Resources had successfully removed all structures, including a container used for various illegal activities, from beneath the Dolphin Estate Bridge.
The Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotosho, had mentioned on Sunday that out of the 450 squatters arrested under the bridge, 371 requested to be relocated to their respective states.
