Vice President Kashim Shettima left Abuja on Sunday evening for Dallas, the United States, to stand in for President Bola Tinubu at the 2024 US-Africa Business Summit.
The Corporate Council on Africa is hosting the summit.
Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Communications, announced this in a statement titled ‘VP Shettima leaves Abuja to Represent President Tinubu at 2024 US-Africa Business Summit in the United States.’
Nkwocha said,“The Vice President will join other political and business leaders from Africa, the United States, and beyond for the summit featuring high-level discussions, networking business sessions, and the plenary, all scheduled for the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Centre in Dallas, Texas.
Presidents Joseph Boakai of Liberia, Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi, Joao Lourenço of Angola, Mokgweetsi E. K. Masisi of Botswana, José Maria Neves of Cabo Verde, and Deputy Prime Minister of Lesotho, Hon. Nthomeng Majara, are among the African leaders expected at the summit.
In addition to the summit plenary, Shettima is expected to discuss at the Roundtable on African Infrastructure Investment with a focus on impact and returns.
He is also scheduled to participate in a high-level panel on agribusiness, focusing on transitioning “from food insecurity to thriving agribusinesses”.
Moreover, the Vice President will address a plenary session on Navigating Africa’s Energy Future as well as lead a session dedicated to promoting the ‘invest in Nigeria’ initiative.
According to the statement, he is also expected to attend other meetings and engagements on the sideline of the summit.
Shettima is expected to return to Nigeria at the culmination of his engagements in the US.
