One individual has been reported dead in a car crash that happened in Ayedere village in the Obada area of Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State on Saturday.
Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, verified the event in a statement on Saturday.
Akinbiyi mentioned that the crash included three individuals, with two of them getting injured.
He stated that the accident was caused by excessive speed, leading the vehicle to flip onto the opposite side of the road due to loss of control and slippery road conditions.
The TRACE spokesperson added that the crash resulted in the death of one occupant of the Volkswagen bus with number plate APP 77 YD, and two others were injured.
He explained, "Witnesses said that the driver of the Volkswagen Bus was speeding in the rain from Abeokuta to Ifo before losing control of the vehicle.
The vehicle then flipped and landed on the opposite lane (for those driving towards Abeokuta). Luckily, no vehicle was on that lane at the time, which could have been more disastrous.
Akinbiyi mentioned that the injured individuals and the deceased were taken to the Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta for medical care and the body of the deceased was deposited there.
"However, out of the three occupants in the vehicle, only one lost their life by the time they were rescued at Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, for medical care, but the remaining two were injured, including the driver.
"While TRACE expresses sympathy for the family of the deceased, drivers are once again cautioned against excessive speed, especially during the rainy season, due to the resulting consequences," he added.
